Sectional play got underway in earnest Tuesday across the state of Indiana in girls soccer and the South Adams Starfires advanced to a Thursday semifinal with a victory over Wabash in the 1A Blackhawk Christian sectional, 4-1.
The Stars got goals from Delaney Schwartz, Lindsey LeFever, Addie Smith and Kaylee Armenta to beat Wabash in their sectional opener.

Starfire keeper Liza Fonte had three saves and earned the clean sheet.
South Adams will play Blackford on Thursday at 5 p.m., while hosts Blackhawk Christian will play in the other semifinal against Eastbrook.

Coach Armin Nosic’s squad defeated Blackford back in August, 4-0.

Canterbury sectional begins Wednesday for Bellmont
The local 2A sectional opens up play Wednesday, with Bellmont taking on New Haven in the Braves’ opener. While the Bulldogs have just two victories on the season, they are considerably better this year compared to years past.

A win for the Braves would put them up against the Norwell and Canterbury winner. That Thursday match will be heard live on WZBD, 92.7 FM, as will each subsequent postseason game for the Braves, who enter the postseason ranked fifth in the state.

Four of the top five teams in the final 2A state rankings are in the same regional.
