The Bellmont Braves continue to prepare themselves for a 4A tournament run with a brutal schedule of Saturday games against the very best competition in Indiana, taking on Zionsville for the second straight weekend on the heels of playing the #1 team in the state in Hamilton Southeastern.

Hamilton Southeastern 3 Bellmont 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-14)
Zionsville 3 Bellmont 2 (22-25, 25-12, 24-26, 25-12, 15-10)
The Braves led in the first two sets against HSE as late as 19-18 in the first and 16-15 in the second, but could not close out either set. Meanwhile, in the second game against Zionsville, the team played much better than seven days prior, when they were swept by the Eagles in straight sets. The Braves led two sets to one, but it was Zionsville who ultimately prevailed with a 15-10 win in the fifth and deciding set.

Bellmont played well at the net against HSE’s height, with Kaylee Kolter and MaryKate Scheumann both picking up two solo blocks. Scheumann led the team with 13 kills. Taylor Sutter had seven kills.

Bre Morgan led the way for the Royals with nine kills.
In the rematch against Zionsville, the effect of Taylor Sutter was notable, as the junior returned from illness over the past week and the Braves were much more successful against the Eagles, who are ranked #13 in the nation by MaxPreps. Bellmont won the first set and then took the third, 26-24, before losing the final two sets for another tough Saturday without a win.
Sutter’s six kills were second only to Scheumann’s 19. Gracie Riggs had an exceptional defensive performance, leading the team with 14 digs.
