Jamison Roach scored from one yard out midway through the first quarter and the Adams Central defense did the rest Friday night as the Jets avenged last year’s only loss in a 7-0 victory in Week 1.

The Jets, ranked #1 in the state in 2A to start the season, held the Garrett Railroaders to just four first downs and 77 yards of offense in the victory.

Despite the defensive effort, head coach Michael Mosser was not satisfied with his team’s performance and knows there is plenty to work on.

“I expected our offense to be ahead of our defense honestly at this point,” said Mosser after the win. “I was disappointed in our offense and it’s something we need to work on.”

Mosser pointed to what he saw on offense after the touchdown as something his team will have to mend if they want to make another deep run.

“Not saying they didn’t play hard, but I felt like they gave that effort on defense but then on offense looked like they were ready to take a break.”
Roach ended the game 2 of 6 in the air for 67 yards. He was sacked twice and also had 74 yards on the ground.
The bulk of the carries for the Jets went to Vance Miller, who finished with 94 yards on 19 carries.

At the end of the night, Mosser challenged his experienced players to step up before next week’s game at Eastside.
“We have to be able to play that way on both sides of the ball,” he said. “I need more from my seniors. I was pretty hard on them last night at halftime, but they’ve always been a little quiet. We need leaders. How our seniors go is how our season goes.”
