Heritage played in the very first IHSAA sectional game in program history Thursday night and advanced to the final day of the tournament with a 3-1 win over South Side.
The Archers, who were given the honor of hosting the first sanctioned sectional, were one of the few area teams that the Patriots had not played in 2025. With the win, they advance to play another new opponent – the Bellmont Braves Saturday morning. Heritage will be heavy favorites to reach the final, where they will likely relish a rematch with the Homestead Spartans.

Heritage jumped out to an early lead in the contest by taking the first and second sets 25-16, 25-17, respectively.

South Side did come back and win the third set, 25-18, but Heritage outclassed the hosts in the fourth, winning easily, 25-15.

Now the Patriots face a day of practice before playing the Bellmont Braves, who have just three wins this season, and then likely the Spartans. Heritage fell to Homestead in a disappointing early-season loss back in April in straight sets.

Note: No stats were provided by Heritage for the game.
The winner of Saturday’s tournament at South Side will advance to the four-team Peru regional on May 24th.
