A 1-2 finish in both the 400 and the 800 handed the South Adams Starfires just enough points to beat Jay County Tuesday in an ACAC three-way in Portland.
The biggest performance, however, was a monster high jump by Tristin Ehr, clearing 6-02 – a height not cleared by any county jumper in years.
Notes & Times:
-Caiden Neuenschwander set the pace for teammate Gavin Litwiller (who was second) and was just .06 seconds slower than his best time last year to win the 400 for South Adams. Litwiller’s time was his best of the year, as well.
-Neuenschwander’s winning time in the 800 was also a season best.
-Ethan Crockett captured the mile in his first attempt this season for AC.
-Carson Laux was third in the 1600 for the Starfires with a new season-best time. Teammate Josh Mickem did the same.
-Trevor Schwartz took the 3200 for AC with a career-best time by more than ten seconds.
-Tristin Ehr missed out on winning the 110 hurdles for the Stars by .04 seconds, but still set a career best. He did the same in the 300 hurdles.
-Ehr was also busy in the field events, winning the high jump with a huge performance of 6-02.
-Jackson Garcia also had a great day, setting a new career best and setting the best distance of the last two years (19-06) for the Starfires in the long jump.
-The best performance for the Adams Central Jets was a discus throw from Braylen Cowans that measured 144 feet and 2.5 inches. That distance was within two feet of last year’s sectional-winning throw.
