The Decatur Police Department – with a little help from the Huntington PD – once again on Wednesday night provided security for a well-known sports figure.
Former Decatur police chief Leonard Corral Jr., city officer Luke Rumschlag (left in photo), and Jordan Corral (center), a Huntington officer (and Leonard’s son), provided the security detail for Dick Vitale, the legendary figure in the world of basketball.
Vitale was the guest speaker at the 50th annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Gourmet Dinner held at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne,
Leonard Corral said the annual benefit drew a packed house and heard Vitale give a “great and inspirational speech.”
Last year then-chief Corral, Rumschlag, city officer Gabe Schwaller and city Reserve Capt. John Summers provided security for IU Coach Mike Woodson at the BB-BS dinner.
In the past, the Decatur department has escorted NFL Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw, Indianapolis Colts Punter Pat McAfee, and Colts Linebacker Darius Leonard to BB-BS dinners.
