A popular children’s event will be returning to Decatur this year, with the third annual Flight of the Fairies scheduled for Saturday, June 24.
Stephanie Colson (see photo), who heads up the event, came before city council at its latest meeting to request permission to post promotional materials in various places throughout the city a few weeks before June 24.
Permission was readily given.
The flight will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 24th. Proceeds will go to the Decatur Arts Commission.
“We appreciate you doing things like this for our community,” Councilman Matt Dyer said.
“You’ve continued to grow” the event, Councilman Wylie Sirk noted.
Tickets will be $8, with children under 2 admitted free, and will be available at the event. There also will be a pre-sale at Riverside Center, date to be announced.
The fairies will be located in the “enchanted woods” west of the REV Sports Complex and off Washington St. Extended.
“Search for fairies and their houses, create magical crafts” a Facebook post says. “Add to the magic, come dressed as a magical creature.”
A fairy house decorating workshop will be held from 2-5 p.m. May 7 at the Bridge Community Church; houses will be $5 each.
