With just under two weeks remaining in the capital drive to renovate South Ward Park in Decatur, the effort has received a major boost from Adams Memorial Hospital.
Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber said Adams Memorial has announced that it will match every dollar that comes in the rest of the way, up to $10,000.
Thus, a $100 donation will become $200, a $500 donation becomes $1,000, etc.
The hospital has already added a $3,200 match to a donation to the project, taking the drive total to $36,084 as of Tuesday.
“I would like to challenge our community to donate $7,116 so Adams Memorial can match their full $10,000 and we can get the IHCDA $50,000 match,” Gerber said.

“A HUGE thank-you to Adams Memorial Hospital for believing in this project and helping our community get closer to the finish line,” the parks and recreation department said in a Facebook post.
Nov. 3 is the deadline to raise $50,000 to be used to match a $50,000 grant offered by CreatINg Places, a program of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.
If the match is secured, $100,000 would be available to replace aging equipment and transform South Ward Park into Adams County’s first-ever, all-inclusive turf park, designed to be fully ADA accessible.

Plans for the park include a universally designed playground with accessible and sensory-focused play opportunities, a toddler play structure, improved sidewalks and accessibility.
