Now it’s down to two … plus one.
The Decatur Chamber of Commerce’s annual summer concert series has just two shows remaining from its original schedule of 13, although the postponed Derek Jones concert is rescheduled for Sept,. 10.
This Thursday’s show features Sunglasses at Night, a Fort Wayne band which made its debut on the Madison St. Plaza last year and proved to be quite popular.
The band says it plays 1980s rock and pop along with fun, danceable songs from all eras. “Both male and female vocals, along with experienced and versatile musicians, allow us to present a variety that is uncommon,” the band explains.
Lead vocalist Bill Herrington, an engineer who enjoys performing, heads a group of five.
Justin Lee Whaley and Vickie Harter also handle vocals.
The band performs frequently in the Fort Wayne and northwest Ohio areas.
This week’s show on the plaza will start an hour earlier than has been the norm lately as the Sunglasses are scheduled to be on from 6 to 9 p.m.
No admission is charged. Food vendors and adult beverages from The Oasis Pub will be available.
ODD TALE: “Sunglasses at Night” is a song by Canadian singer Corey Hart which was released on January 21, 1984, as the first single from his debut album.
How the name came about is an odd tale.

According to co-producer Phil Chapman, the recording sessions for the album took place in a studio whose air conditioning/heating vents were directly above the mixing console.
Air from the vents blew directly into the faces of the control room personnel, so they often wore sunglasses to protect their eyes.
Hart, working on a new song, began to improvise lyrics that included the line “I wear my sunglasses at night.”
