New data released by the Indiana Department of Education shows that students at Bellmont High School from the Class of 2027 performed better than neighboring schools on the 2026 SAT test in both English and in Math.
Statewide results showed Indiana students meeting the match benchmark at roughly a 25% rate. The 150 students at Bellmont High School earned the highest rate of benchmark proficiency in Adams and Wells county schools with a percentage of 36.7%, while Southern Wells was second among the six high schools with a rate of 30.5%.
Adams Central’s math benchmark rate was also just above the state average at 27%, while Norwell was even with the state average.
Bluffton (23.7%) and South Adams (17.9%) were below the state marks.
In Allen County, Homestead led the way with a rate over 47%, while Carroll was just above 40%. Leo led the four East Allen High Schools with a rate of 39.7%.
Some of the highest rates in the state were found in Boone and Hamilton counties, where Zionsville had 374 of 581 students meet the benchmark (64%) and Carmel had a rate of 63.8%.
West Lafayette High School had the best rate of any public school in Indiana at 66.3%.
In English, benchmark proficiency rates were much higher in the Hoosier state, with 54% of this year’s seniors showing college readiness in reading and writing.
Bellmont High School’s juniors from the 2025-26 school year also led the way in this metric, with a benchmark proficiency rate of 58%.
Adams Central and Norwell were just above the state average in reading and writing, with Southern Wells (52%), South Adams (51%) and Bluffton (44%) falling short of the state mark.
Leo led the way locally with a rate of 77.5%, while West Lafayette beat out Zionsville for top statewide marks.
