The Decatur Chamber’s Summer Concert Series takes another huge diverse swing this week with its first-ever presentation of grunge music.
The first seven weeks of the annual concert series has featured hard rock, pop rock and country music, but this week will bring on something different.
Grunge, the Sounds of Seattle, is a five-man tribute band that will be performing from 7 to 9:15 on the Madison St. Plaza stage Thursday.
The band says it plays tribute to some of the most influential bands of the ’80s and ’90s.
Blending heavy punk and heavy metal genres, the concert will feature the music of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and other legendary Seattle bands.
Here’s what Wikipedia says about grunge music: “Grunge (originally known as the Seattle Sound) is an alternative rock genre and subculture that emerged during the mid-1980s in the U.S. state of Washington, particularly in Seattle and Olympia, and other nearby cities.
“Grunge fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal, and features the distorted electric guitar sound used in both genres, as well as bass guitar, drums, and vocals.”
As usual, no admission will be charged Thursday. Food trucks and adult beverages by The Oasis Pub will be available.
