Richard C. Gerber Jr., 78, of Decatur, claimed his eternal reward in Christ early Tuesday morning, May 19, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Decatur, IN, on April 9, 1948, the son of Delores M. (Worden) and Richard C. Gerber Sr.

His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Salem Magley Church. Richard formed many cherished friendships throughout his years as a member of the Scottish Rite Freemasonry & Adams Lodge 1311 Loyal Order of Moose.
Richard devoted many years to being self-employed as an accountant and bookkeeper, where his attention to detail and reliability were greatly valued. He also worked at Fleetwood/Tioga in Decatur, IN and at GKN Automotive in Ohio.
One of his biggest accomplishments was building the in-ground home with his wife, Rita. Among his favorite pastimes were golf cart rides on warm afternoons and spirited euchre games that often lasted late into the evening with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his four children, Richard (Kelly) Gerber III of Fort Wayne, IN, David Gerber of Decatur, IN, Martha (Corey) Titler of Leo, IN, Mark Gerber of Fort Wayne, IN; the mother of his children, Rita (Reed) West of Fort Wayne, IN; two sisters, Gloria (Bill) Miller of Bluffton, IN, Linda Harman of Decatur, IN; 6 grandchildren, Simon Gerber, Emma Gerber, Claire Titler, Elizabeth Gerber, Wyatt Gerber, Maverick Gerber and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Max Moser & his brother-in-law, Richard Harman.
A Funeral Service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Salem Magley Church, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Chris Hirschy will be officiating and burial will follow in Salem Magley Church Cemetery in Magley, Indiana.
