Jack D. Springer, 83, of Decatur, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 5, 2026. Jack was born in Decatur on February 4, 1943 to the late Homer R. and Violet C. (Ritter) Springer. On April 5, 1969, Jack married Arlene K. Wendel.

Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church. A member of the loyal Order of Moose Adams Lodge 1311 and American Legion Adams Post 43. Jack retired in 1998 after 30 years working in the research farm at Central Soya. He served his country in the US Army.
Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene K. Springer of Decatur; 3 daughters, Stacy Springer, Wendy (Tony Costello) Berry and Dorene (Jason) Vergara all of Decatur; 3 brothers, Robert, Johnny and Calvin (Linda) Springer; 2 sisters, Betty (Ray) Ball and Linda Springer; 4 grandchildren, Cody Kneer, Zach Kneer, Nicholas Vergara and Macie Vergara and 2 great grandchildren, Luna Vergara and Sebastian Vergara.
Jack was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Martha Boothby and Phyllis West and a brother, Dennis Springer.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home followed by a 2:30 graveside service at Ray Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be rendered by American Legion Adams Post 43 Color Guard.
Preferred memorials are to the American Legion Adams Post 43.
