Some 400 members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) are enjoying their new digs.
The move to the new home at 327 N. Second St. in Decatur, former home of the Decatur Elks, was completed in mid-January.
“…from a small place to a much larger place,” said Adam Eguia, a VFW officer.
Eguia said a formal grand opening is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.
The former VFW site at 127 N. Third St. is closed.

“We’re still contemplating what to do with it; probably sell it,” Eguia said.
Dwindling numbers in membership and finances saw the Elks lodge, after 118 years in Decatur, close its doors last March 22. It was merged with the Bluffton Elks organization.
The Elks building was put up for sale and the VFW quickly pounced – making the purchase five days after the availability was announced.

The local VFW has approximately 400 members, including 238 in the auxiliary, of which Eguia is president, as well as the VFW’s Fourth District president.
Greg Light is the post commander.
