Julie-Marie Brown, a veteran attorney with over 28 years of experience in both civil and criminal law, has announced her candidacy for Adams County Prosecuting Attorney. A native of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Brown received her undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 1991 and her law degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1997.
Upon graduation Brown began her career with the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office where she and served in the felony narcotics division and established that County’s 1st civil forfeiture program – an initiative that remains a foundational enforcement tool today – while also successfully prosecuting more than 60 jury and bench trials during her tenure.
In 2003, Brown began serving as the Adams County Title IV-D Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, a role she continues to hold. Her work in this capacity has centered on ensuring the protection and stability of children and families through the enforcement of child support obligations. In that same year she also entered private practice as a family and estate law attorney, building a reputation for steady counsel, strong courtroom advocacy, and practical problem solving. Brown is also a registered domestic relations mediator, offering families a balanced resolution-focused alternative to litigation.
In 2018, Brown was appointed as legal counsel for the Adams County Council and continues to serve in that capacity. Her guidance has supported responsible fiscal management, transparent governance, and contributed to the long-term well-being of the Adams County Community. Along with her continuing roles within Adams County Government, Brown maintains her private practice with the Decatur law firm of MILLER, BURRY & BROWN.
Brown’s extensive experience in the areas of criminal law, civil litigation, mediation, and municipal counsel uniquely qualifies her to serve in the role of Prosecuting Attorney. “I have lived, worked, and raised my family in this community; my commitment to Adams County is not political, it’s personal. It would be my honor to serve as the next Prosecuting Attorney for Adams County and continue the efficient, conscientious work of this Office in keeping Adams County safe and strong,” said Brown.
Julie-Marie Brown and her husband, Jeremy, have been married since 1998 and have two (2) sons, Emerson and Winston. The Browns are active members of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana.
