Jay County Sheriff Ray Newton announced Thursday that the driver involved in the fatal crash Tuesday on IN 67 has been handed over to authorities on immigration warrant.

Bekzhan Beishekeev, a 30-year-old man from Philadelphia, swerved into the westbound lane to avoid running into the rear of a semi driven by a Geneva man on Tuesday afternoon. Beishekeev’s Freightliner hit a vehicle driven by Donald Stipp, 55 of Portland. Passengers Henry Eicher, Menno Eicher, Paul Eicher and Simon Girod all died in the crash, while Stipp is in critical condition in a Dayton hospital.

A fifth passenger in the van driven by Stipp is also in a Fort Wayne hospital.
According to Sheriff Newton, Beishekeev was originally housed in the Jay County jail, but was handed over to the Indiana State Police once ICE became involved with the warrant.
