Trailing throughout the first half, the South Adams Starfires dug down deep and decided that they had had enough of their ten-game losing streak.
A big third quarter gave them their first lead and they held on through a physical final stanza for a 35-32 in the home finale and the final game before competing in next week’s 2A Sectional at Woodlan.

The home team scored just two points in the final quarter, but only gave up four themselves.
Laney Trausch scored nine points on her Senior Night.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start today,” noted head coach Brett Freeman of his girls, who are now 6-15 as they switch gears for sectional.
Freeman noted that the team did have a better shooting night than Thursday, when the Stars lost to Lakewood Park Christian, 40-35.

“We were just a little out of sync offensively, and that caused some unforced turnovers. In the middle two quarters we were much more aggressive on both ends of the court and forced them into some turnovers.”
More than anything, the win gets the monkey off the team’s back heading into the postseason.
“This win will help to breathe some positive energy back into the girls heading into sectional. Plus, it’s always great when you can send your senior (Laney Trausch) out with a win in her last game at the Stardome.”
Fans of the Starfires can hear their game against Bishop Luers on Tuesday on 92.7 FM, WZBD.
