MONROE – Adams Central captured four individual titles and held off a strong challenge by Bishop Dwenger to retain their title in the AC Jet Invite in the SAC in Monroe Saturday.
The Jets were guaranteed at least one title before the afternoon finals began, as both Ezra Liechty and Cruz Bowers made the finals at 106. The highly-anticipated match, which might just give AC fans an insight into the team’s postseason lineup plans, went the way of Bowers with two takedowns in a 6-5 win. A late reversal for Liechty did not yield any nearfall.
The Jets also won titles with Dylan Ogg at 150, Brason Schortgen at 165 and Ethan Funk at 215.
Callen Olry of Homestead knocked off Kale Beer in the finals at 132, reversing a 10-2 loss in the dual twelve days earlier.
The Spartans sent a mix of varsity guys like Olry and several JV wrestlers, but still managed a fourth-place finish.
The biggest match of the tournament was in the finals at 157, where #2 Jackson Bradley of Cowan squared off against #7 Mav Dubach in a championship bout of returning state medalists.
Bradley had takedowns in each of the three periods and pushed it to a major with a nearfall situation in the final minute, winning 12-1.
The Jets were without Ryan Beer Saturday.
Adams Central will compete in Friday’s ACAC tourney at Bluffton, which can be heard on WZBD.
