**Press release from the Decatur Police Department…
On January 12, 2026 in the early morning hours Decatur Police Officers were summoned to a residence in the 800 block of Walnut Street to give aid to a subject experiencing a mental health crisis. Out of an abundance of caution due to statements that had been made, and keeping the safety and wellbeing in mind for everyone involved officers backed away from the residence after they confirmed the subject was inside and alone. The Decatur Police Department then requested the assistance of Allen County SWAT to aid in the resolution of this matter. Later that morning, Allen County SWAT was able to get the subject to peacefully exit the residence at which point they were taken into custody and transported to a health care facility for proper treatment. No parties involved were injured due to this incident. This is considered an ongoing investigation and so no further comment will be made by this department. We would like to thank both the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Allen County Sheriff’s Office with their assistance.
