An excellent Delta team took care of the Bellmont Braves in the opening game of the annual Delta Holiday Classic Monday, sending the Braves to the consolation bracket, where they ultimately fell into the seventh-place game with a heartbreaking afternoon loss. Delta won the game 66-45.
The Eagles, meanwhile, reached the final, where they will take on unbeaten South Side in the 8 p.m. final.
In the second game of the opening day, the Braves took on a Seeger team that was coming into the tournament with a 5-1 record and a championship in their Bi-County tournament the week before. Seeger won the contest 67-66, overcoming a 30-point game from Bellmont’s leading scorer, Daniel Selking.
