After dropping the first two games on the road of the year, the Bellmont Braves made it a successful weekend in the Teepee, taking the cue from the girls, who won twice in less than 24 hours, and beating Canterbury in the home opener, 61-60.
It was a huge comeback for coach Selking’s boys, as they trailed 35-23 at half. A 24-point third quarter erased the entire deficit and gave the Braves a lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Braves spread the ball around in that third quarter, with the four main scorers all knocking down multiple shots over the eight minutes. Jake Hackman scored four of his nine points in the third, while Daniel Selking had ten of his twelve. Cam Summers and Jack Schultz, who led the Braves with 18 points in the game, each had five.
The team will enjoy a week of practice before a big showdown against the Heritage Patriots at home Saturday.

Bellmont held the state’s leading scorer to just ten points and smacked Marion Saturday afternoon by 40 points, less than 24 hours after beating DeKalb in their NE8 opener by 36 Friday.
Ashley Bleke had a superb night, draining five threes and leading all scorers with 23 points.
Oni Krueckeberg, Lanie French and Mary Bleke each had 12 points in the win.
The Braves scored a whopping 29 points in the opening quarter.
Bellmont will play at Bishop Luers on Wednesday and then prep for a huge early-season road trip to East Noble Friday. The EN Knights are 7-1 at this point in their season.
Meanwhile, at Heritage, the South Adams Starfires humbled the Patriots in a 28-point blowout.
Laney Trausch dropped 21 points and Ana Lehman had 13 in the win for South Adams.
Molly Krey led the Patriots with ten.
“We were able to get out to a good start,” said coach Brett Freeman after his team’s ACAC win. “We let them get right back in and actually take the lead, but in the second quarter our defense started to get in a better sync.”
Freeman noted the adjustments made at halftime as the key decider in the game.

“We had better movement, energy and decision making and our pressure really started to get to them.”
Heritage will play at Southern Wells Friday, while South Adams will play back-to-back nights this week, taking on winless South Side Tuesday and Eastbrook Wednesday, both on the road.
