Ashley and Mary Bleke scored double-figure points and the Bellmont Braves once again clamped down on defense, beating the DeKalb Barons in the NE8 opener Friday, 61-25.

The defense never let up, with the Braves continuing to play their brand of basketball in front of a large crowd of alumni, holding the visiting Barons to just two made field goals in the second half.

Ashley Bleke, who finished with a game-high 19 points, and Kate Kitson drained early threes and the Braves jumped out to a 15-10 lead after one quarter.

The outside shooting helped open up space in the paint and Mary Bleke added 12 points to the Braves’ cause in the final three quarters. The Braves spent much of the second half at three free throw line. They finished 13 for 19 on the night.

Now 7-1 on the season, the Braves will take on 5-3 Marion Saturday afternoon.
