A hot shooting start from leading scorer Daniel Selking got Bellmont out to an early lead, but the host Concordia Cadets ultimately prevailed 58-47, picking up their first victory of the year over the now 0-2 Braves.
Selking’s second three of the opening quarter, a pull-up jumper after the Cadets tied the game at 10-10, gave the sophomore nine points in the first eight minutes.

Then Charlie Lang stepped up.
Back-to-back threes from Lang turned a 17-15 Bellmont lead into a 21-17 Cadet advantage. He went on to drain two more in the second on his way to a team-high 16-point night.
The home team led 35-23 at the break after the 23-point outburst in the second.
Bellmont tried to feed the ball more to Cam Summers to create space for Selking in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough to make a huge dent in the deficit. Both nailed threes in the final quarter, but Concordia was simply too good at the free throw line in the game’s final minutes, knocking down 9 of 10.
Summers finished with 13 points.
The Braves will look for their first victory of the year Saturday at home against Canterbury. It will be the season opener for the Cavaliers, who won just nine games last year, including a 49-42 win over Bellmont.
