Laney Trausch scored 16 points and the South Adams Starfires pulled away from Union City in the third quarter Saturday as the team captured their first win of the season, beating the Indians, 52-37.
Trausch dominated down low and hit 4 of 6 free throws to give the Stars the edge over their rivals to the South.
“We were much sharper tonight,” said head coach Brett Freeman about his team’s first win. “We did a much better job of taking care of the ball and making much smarter decisions. The girls really worked hard on both sides of the floor.”

The one player the Stars struggled to contain was Novah Mote, who knocked down three from behind the arc and had a 16-point night.
South Adams will take on former conference foe Leo on Tuesday in the StarDome. The Lions are off to a 5-1 start and the season and will be a tough challenge for coach Freeman’s team.
“Our pressure in the third quarter and aggressive play on offense really opened up the game for us. I’m really happy for our girls. They played a really good game. Everyone gave us all they had and contributed to our victory.”
