Combine the points from the first, third and fourth quarters in Saturday night’s contest between South Adams and Blackford and one could chalk up a comfortable 28-19 victory for coach Brett Freeman’s Starfires, but the game is four quarters long and a 17-2 margin for the visiting Bruins gave them a 36-30 win in the StarDome.
“We came out of the gates and got a few easy shots,” said Freeman. “Then the rust really showed. We were struggling to make good decisions, passes, and shots. Defensively, our communication really fell off in the 2nd quarter and they got some easy looks that they knocked down.”

The Stars struggled from the field, hitting just ten shots the entire night. They scored ten of their 30 points from the free throw line, where they were 10 of 18.
Ana Lehman led the Stars in scoring with twelve points. Laney Trausch added ten.
“Unfortunately, we dug ourselves too much of a whole at that point. I was glad to see more of the play we expect in the 2nd half. Some of this was expected with it being our first game and their 4th. Now that we have one under our belt we can get things going in the right directions.”
The Stars will return to action at Muncie Burris on Thursday.
