After another successful season in which his team was ranked consistently in the top ten in the state in 2A, long-time Bellmont head coach Steve Lee was named the small-school coach of the year in District 1 after taking his team to the regional final yet again in 2025.
The announcement was made by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association this week.

“This award truly belongs to our players, their parents, and Coach Rich Skaggs,” Lee said. “They show up every day, work hard, and believe in each other. This group really played for one another. I told the team that if they learned one thing this year, it should be the importance of the success they achieved by supporting each other. They should never forget how that feels. When we work together, everyone benefits in the end. I feel fortunate to coach such a special group of young women, and I am honored to receive this award on their behalf.”
Lee’s team recently finished off another undefeated regular season in the NE8. Almost as important as the conference title was an unblemished scoring record for his team, after they took all seven games with clean sheets.
A willingness to play anyone in the state, as evidenced by games against Homestead and Carroll this season, have brought Lee much respect from his peers in recent years.
Graduating class after class of seniors, usually with at least one D-I college player and several other college commits mixed in, Lee and Skaggs have continued to keep the Bellmont program in the upper echelons of the sport in the Hoosier state.
Lee and his wife, Stacey, are both Bellmont graduates themselves and deeply ingrained in the local community. They are both ardent supporters of high school athletics and of WZBD Radio, where they follow the Braves and their beloved Indianapolis Colts. The couple will be in attendance Sunday when the team plays in Berlin, representing Adams County and Z-Land at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
