Sometimes in soccer, you take the opportunities given to you.
That’s exactly what the Bellmont Braves did Monday night as they defeated their archrival, the Leo Lions, by a score of 1-0 to take total control of the NE8 conference title race.

Taking advantage of a great free kick by Kaitlyn Barton, Oni Krueckeberg got in behind the Leo back line and was pulled down in the box, with the Lions defender going through the back of the sophomore forward for the tackle.

Krueckeberg slotted the shot home and the Braves used their superior possession to make their offense the best form of defense the rest of the way.

The shutout victory continues Bellmont’s long run of sensational defense in the NE8. The back line of the Braves allowed just one goal in last year’s title run and are yet to concede in this year’s.
Krueckeberg’s goal was her eighth of the season in the team’s first eleven games.

The team has won their first four games in the NE8 by a combined score of 14-0.

Three conference games remain for coach Steve Lee’s team. Fixtures against East Noble and New Haven seem like relative formalities considering both teams are winless at this point in the year in the NE8. That means the match on the final day of the regular season against DeKalb is likely to settle the conference title. The Barons are currently 4-0, like the Braves, in the NE8 standings.
