Three games over three consecutive nights may have made the legs of the Bellmont Braves a bit tired, but they certainly weren’t feeling it on Thursday night as they celebrated a thrilling 1-0 win over the Wayne Generals for their first victory of the season.

Coming off a season with just two victories in 2024, the Braves had already played and lost against both teams they beat last year (Snider and Norwell), but senior captain Jake Hackman did not let the team fall to 0-7, scoring in the 25th minute (see gallery above).

The Braves made a tweak to the starting lineup, shifting junior Taahir Ally to the starting XI in an effort to break up the scoring drought of this season, with the team scoring just twice in their six opening games.

Wayne put the pressure on the Bellmont back line, forcing several corners in the game’s final 15 minutes.

Xavior Palacios made an outstanding save with just minutes remaining in the contest to keep the shutout alive.

The Junior Varsity Braves fell to the Generals by a 2-0 margin.

Bellmont’s schedule will feature just two games next week, but both will be away from home against quality opponents: Huntington North and Blackhawk Christian.
