DECATUR – The Leo Lions swept the top five places in the girls’ race at the Bellmont Invitational Wednesday to complete a perfect finish of 15 team points as teams on both the girls’ and boys’ sides ran a shortened 4K race in a rare midweek event.
Organizers of the event noted that for the past three years, the Wednesday date on the calendar has brought extreme heat, so the race was set at 4K instead of five to allow teams to plan accordingly. Of course, the weather was perfect and temperatures were normal, but most of the runners did not mind the shortened format.
The Bellmont boys took their team title despite the fact that Hudson Krull was disqualified for an inadvertent cut of a corner, likely caused the irregular and shortened course.

Rosalinda Medina of Heritage led the Z-Land contingent in the girls’ race, while Ethan Crockett won the boys’ race for Adams Central.
