Hot? So what!
Undeterred by stifling heat and humidity, fans of the E5C4P3 Journey tribute band and other music lovers turned out in droves Thursday night on the Madison St. Plaza in Decatur.
They certainly weren’t disappointed.
The five-man band performed all the Journey hits – and there are a lot of them – to a highly appreciative audience.
The temp stood at an oppressive 92 degrees when the music kicked off at 7 p.m. It was so hot that a later light rain of a few minutes received some cheers.

The crowd size rivaled that of the one of two weeks earlier, when The Hairbangers Ball played the plaza.
Nor did the heat deter dancers who were feeling the great music of the band, featuring the voice of Jason Kelty, who amazingly sounds exactly like Journey’s great Steve Perry.

Kelty, 54, a Cleveland native who has been performing professionally since 1992 and founded the E5C4P3 band in 1993, provides, as one source says, the classic Perry tone down to a “T”.
It was the fifth appearance of E5C4P3 on the plaza in Decatur Chamber’s Summer Concert series and surely won’t be the last if dates can be worked out.

After performing all the Journey hits – and tossing in a drum solo by Michael Scott Nelson – the band wound up the night with a rousing rendition of “Wheel in the Sky”.
E5C4P3 (pronounced “Escape”) uses the original spelling from the legendary album that included the biggest Journey hits of all-time.
