Addie Baker singled home Bekah Patterson to give the South Adams Starfires a 12-2, ten-run lead in the bottom of the fifth as they advanced to the championship game of the local 2A softball sectional Thursday. The Stars will seek their third title in a row Saturday against Woodlan.
Baker allowed just two hits and struck out eight, holding the Wildcats in check outside of a third-inning relay that saw Whitko score both their runs on outs as the Starfires avoided the big rally. They enjoyed a 9-0 lead coming into the inning.

The Stars scored six times in the first, using the bunt and taking bases at will to put immense pressure on Whitko early.

Whitko, on the other hand, failed to execute the bunt in the second inning with South Adams using great defense to complement Baker’s solid pitching.
Reagan Bollenbacher tripled with the bases loaded to score three more runs for the home team in the second and Shelby Weigel homered (See below) in the third.

The Starfires will be favored in Saturday’s championship, having defeated Woodlan 15-6 earlier this season.
