HUNTERTOWN – Carroll hosted and dominated the local girls track and field regional Tuesday, capturing the team title by nearly 50 points and winning six different events. The Chargers will send nine different athletes to the State Finals next week at North Central in Indianapolis.
Athletes from Z Land were not shut out from state berths, however, as the area continued its streak of throwers competing at the state meet with one thrower from Heritage (see gallery below) making the cut.

Alexa Walter, who won the sectional last week, finished second in the shot and just short of the regional title. She advances to the State Finals with one more attempt to break her school record of 41-03.

DiNestee Williams-White cut a full second from her PR, set back at the ACAC meet, in the 400 to beat out several girls in the fast heat and finish seventh in the event for Heritage.

Kapri Bixler’s performance in the opening heat of the 100 M hurdles was her best of the season and it put her in the finals with some of the best athletes in the state, wearing South Adams on her chest. Bixler finished in eighth place.

Luelle Schoch of the Starfires went 4-10 for the first time in the high jump and finished in 16th place.

Bixler also scored points in the 300 hurdles, cutting .4 from her previous career best from the ACAC meet to take seventh in 47.04.

Emerson Meredith of Norwell (See below) had a great night on the north end of the stadium in the pole vault, defying the wind and clearing 11 feet to claim the regional title over Alexandra Gates of Leo.

Local vaulters Stella McIntire (SA) and Chloe Post (B) both equaled their season bests to round out their seasons.

Bellmont’s 4×400 relay team rounded out the night for local athletes with an outstanding performance, finishing in second place in their heat with a new season-best mark. Ashley Bleke, Quinn Buchan, Kaitlyn Barton and Khia Cannon’s time of 4:10.81 was three seconds faster than Homstead’s winning time at last week’s sectional (in the rain) and the Braves’ time was good enough to beat the Spartans in the overall standings.
