Amos Eugene “Gene” Petitt, 78, Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Adams Woodcrest. He was born in Van Wert, OH, on September 19, 1946, the son of the late Doyle and Eva Bessie (Thomas) Petitt.
He was a 1962 graduate of Van Wert High School and was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose Adams Lodge 1311.
Gene worked as a truck driver and worked for Prestress in Decatur and Aeroquip in Van Wert. He enjoyed drag racing, truck and tractor pulls, and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his 2 daughters, Wendy (John) Emerick and Amy (Terry) Bowling both of Decatur; 4 grandchildren, Kaitlynn (Cody) Eling, Ashlynne Emerick, Alyssa (Jackie) Bowling, Kalub (Kristina) Bowling; great grandchildren, Karsyn Anderson, Kristine Howard, Khloe Howard, Hailee Bowling, Emma Rudkin, and Dawson Bowling.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Haggard – Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with visitation 2 hours prior from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Adam Poe and burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City, OH, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Stillwater Hospice or the American Heart Association.
