An opportunity back in December for six of Delta’s very best wrestlers to compete with the toughest competition in the Midwest took away the opportunity for the Adams Central Jets to take a real shot at the 2A Runners-Up Thursday night. Instead, the 1A finalists made quick and easy work of a Delta lineup that saw those six studs watching from the bench on Delta’s Senior Night.

Adams Central won the dual, dropping just one bout (and conceding a forfeit), 66-10.

The dual meet featured four forfeits. The most entertaining bout came at heavyweight, where Gavin Rumple won a classic heavyweight match 1-0.

Brason Schortgen was one move away from a tech fall against Zeke Witter, but Witter injured himself and had to default late in the third period.

Rules dictating how many matches and weigh-ins a team can have in a regular season meant that Delta head coach Cody LeCount had to barter the invite for the prestigious Carnahan Invite at Crown Point in December for a loss of eligibility for those same wrestlers on Senior Night. While neither coach was happy with how the circumstances led to the lopsided dual, there was little that could be done.

Instead, the Jets had a chance to rebound from a loss in the 1A championship match ahead of Saturday’s Jet Invite.

Adams Central will use Saturday’s Invite to prepare for next Friday’s ACAC Tournament in Monroe, which will be carried live on WZBD, 92.7 FM.
