Dale S. Manis, 55, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital after a 15-month battle with cancer. He was born in Anderson, Indiana, on April 22, 1969, the son of Jerry L. and Beverly J. (Lewis) Manis. On March 25, 1995, he married Cheryl L. Nussbaum.
He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1987. He went to Ball State University where he received a Bachelor’s in Education in 1991 and then received a Master’s Degree in Education Administration.

Dale began his career in public education as the Industrial Arts Teacher at Bellmont Middle School for 14 years from 1992 – 2006. He then served as the Assistant Principal at Bellmont High School for 4 years from 2006 – 2010. Most recently for the past 14 years he served as the Athletic Director at Bellmont High School, until his retirement in December of 2024.
He was a mentor to many and touched the lives of so many students through the years. He enjoyed all sports and coached basketball at Bellmont High School and was a Kansas Jayhawks fan.
He was an avid golfer and loved being out on the golf course. He enjoyed going on vacations with his family and loved his dogs. He was a music buff, especially loved the Foo Fighters.
Dale is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cheryl Manis of Decatur, IN; his son, Brady (fiancée Abby Redick) Manis of Decatur, IN; his daughter, Halle Manis of Decatur, IN; his parents, Jerry & Bev Manis of Middletown, IN; a sister, Angie (Chris) Beck of Middletown, IN; in-laws, Willis & Eleanor Nussbaum of Berne, IN; sister and brother-in-law, Anne-Marie & Matt Reininga of Granger, IN; nephews, Brandon (Oyke) Beck of Indianapolis, IN, Austin (Jen) Beck of Anderson, IN, Nate Reininga of Granger, IN, Cody (Makenzie) Beck of Noblesville, IN; a great niece, Tilly Beck.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. The family asks that you dress casual and wear either Bellmont gear or apparel of other sports teams.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at The Bridge Community Church in Decatur, with Pastor Dave Fox & Pastor Dave Hill officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the A.C.C.F. Dale Manis Fund.
