Four Homestead wrestlers ready for Rochester regional

The Homestead Spartans are finding success on both the girls’ and boys’ sides of the wrestling mat this season.

The boys are headed to Team State for the first time as one of eight teams involved in this year’s 4A tournament at Brownsburg Saturday.

Meanwhile, a quartet of female grapplers for the Spartans will attempt to represent the southwest side of Allen County by qualifying for the inaugural IHSAA State Finals at Friday’s regional in Rochester.

Leading that group is returning state runner-up, Katy Vardaman, ranked #3 in the state at 135 with a 29-2 season record.

Homestead’s Katy Vardaman caught up with the Z Team Tuesday night to talk about the upcoming IHSAA regional at Rochester and her season so far.

Freshman Amelia Stark spoke with Dane Fuelling and Rex Brewer about her first season as a varsity wrestler.

Kiersten Snyder discusses her regional matches for Homestead this Friday.
