14 teams crowned 14 weight class champions in the first year under the IHSAA name at the Muncie Central girls’ wrestling sectional Friday and the Jay County Patriots, one of the top teams in the entire state, won comfortably over a tough group of Indy-area schools, winning by 85 points and taking nearly half the weight classes.

Mallory Winner took the first step toward her fourth state title with a pin in the first period against a returning state medalist, taking out Wes-Del’s Paislee Chambers to capture the 170 title for Jay County.

The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to next Friday’s regional at Alexandria. WZBD will be covering both the Alexandria regional and the Rochester regional.
The girls’ season will end with the State Finals in Indianapolis on January 17th. WZBD is the only radio station in the state to have covered the last four State Finals and wrestling fans can count on full coverage of the finals on 92.7 FM.
