A day after being left out of the upcoming 2A Team State tournament, the Jay County Patriots took home the title of their own tournament, beating out 16 other teams for a convincing 44-point victory with five individual champions.
Already hosting the 2A event, the Patriots did not receive enough votes to be among the 12 teams invited to the IHSWCA event, but they showed plenty of muscle in Monday’s tournament.
For South Adams, a depleted half-lineup left the Starfires without any chance of competing with Jay County. The team, which received an automatic bid to the 1A Team State tournament, finished behind second-place Central Noble. The Cougars were one of the teams left out of the 1A tourney. Alexandria (also a 1A state team) were third.
Dakota Sprunger captured the Stars’ only individual title, winning 126 and keeping the Stars in fifth place, pinning Cooper Glassford of Jay County in the finals.
