It promises to be an exciting night of high school wrestling Tuesday as the Bellmont Braves host South Adams.
While the Starfires are set to forfeit either two or three weights to the Braves, they will be highly competitive in the other 11 or 12 bouts as they seek a signature win heading into Saturday’s New Castle Duals to aide their attempt for a better seed at 1A Team State.
For the Braves, the dual meet will mark essentially the end of the first half of the season. After Thursday night, the team will have wrestled 22 duals and they will set their sights on the individual segment of the season with the Al Smith Tournament set to begin a week later.
One match that many on both sides would like to see – a rematch between Gavis Davis and Isaiah Meyer – is not likely to happen. Davis beat Meyer last season in the dual, 9-4.
One rematch that is likely to happen is the bout at 120, where Ben Mills will be looking for revenge against Titus Loshe after Loshe took him down in overtime for a 5-3 victory at 106 last season.
Other intriguing matchups are at 126, where Dakota Sprunger will take on Ethan Curtis, and 132, where unbeaten Will Patterson will wrestle freshman Gabe Myers.
144 will also be an interesting bout. Senior Will Franze is 16-5 on the year and will likely wrestle Wyatt Mann.
