Bellmont went 2-0 in the opening two rounds of the NE8 Duals, held Friday night at Columbia City. More importantly, they had everyone on weight for the first night in preparation for a more challenging day on Saturday.
Grady Baker had one of the biggest matches of the night, pushing #4-ranked Isaiah Coolman all the way into the third period. The junior heavyweight was trailing 1-0 and chose neutral in the third period. Coolman wrapped up the win with a takedown, but Baker gained some confidence against one of the top heavyweights in the state.
“Looking back, I should have probably chosen down and fought for my mistake and tried to go as deep into the match as possible,” noted Baker after his first loss of the season. “But I think I will get another shot at him.”
Henry Faurote picked up a key victory against the Lions, beating a very solid Nolan Butcher, 8-3.
Austin Manley had two great bouts, dropping the first one against Leo but responding with a win at 157 against DeKalb.
The Braves will wrestle New Haven in Round 4 Saturday and East Noble in Round 5 for what figure to be the two biggest dual meets of the event.
