After a couple of early-season, lopsided losses, the South Adams Starfires scored their first victory of the season on the road Saturday night, beating Blackford, 36-27.
The Stars had eight different girls make the scoring column, with Laney Trausch and Ana Lehman leading the way with seven points each.
Bekah Patterson knocked down the team’s only three and finished with six points.
Coach Brett Freeman’s team never trailed.
“The girls really had to battle tonight,” said the coach after his first win back at South Adams. “We were able to get some pressure on them that really helped us turn defense into some quick offense.”
Freeman noted that he had three girls foul out of the ballgame, leaving him with five freshmen on the court to finish out the win.
South Adams won the JV contest, which was only two quarters, 15-12.
