Decatur’s annual Christmas tree lighting festivities are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m.
As usual, the event will be held in and around the courthouse square and be open to the public.
Santa will arrive at 4 p.m. and youngsters may meet him in the Santa Shack on the Madison St. Plaza from 4-6 p.m.

Free carriage rides will be offered from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The tree lighting will start at 6 p.m. and be followed by a toy giveaway.
The event will also include live caroling.
Soup and drinks will be sold by the Decatur Church of God.
Gingerbread house entries in a new event, a Gingerbread Family Festival (see earlier story), will be on view at the HIVE from 3-8 p.m. as part of the tree lighting festivities.
Judging of the gingerbread houses will select winners in three categories: most creative, best design and best theme.
