Bellmont fans had little to cheer about in Friday’s NE8 finale against East Noble, but a freshman connection between backup QB Daniel Selking and WR Cole Barger resulted in a touchdown, giving the home crowd something to chew on in an otherwise forgettable night as the Knights set a school record of 75 points in a 75-6 victory, pushing the Bellmont losing streak to 31 games.
Selking’s insertion into the game in the second half breathed some life into the Bellmont offense. Finding absolutely no success on the ground for the second straight week, and without their man back (Grady Baker) due to injury, the freshman gunslinger came out firing, completing three of his first four passes to three different receivers.
Selking finished 5 for 10 for 122 yards passing and the touchdown to Barger.

Easton Curtis also got off to a good start, although the Braves were never in the game, allowing a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to the conference leaders. Curtis completed three passes on the opening drive for 42 yards and had the Braves deep in East Noble territory, but an underthrown ball to the end zone was picked off and returned 101 yards untouched by Logan Hatton to put the Knights ahead 14-0.
Curtis was just 1 for 14 after that for eight yards and he was sacked three times.

The Knights’ domination of the line of scrimmage ended with the Braves at a deficit in the run game of negative five yards.
Grady Baker touched the ball just twice before leaving the game with an injury and not returning. He had one yard.
Rylee Biddle threw for 201 yards on 9 of 14 passing.
The Knights added insult to injury when they attempted and recovered an onside kick despite already leading by 48 points against a team that has lost 57 of the past 58 contests.

Alexander Phillips led the Knights with 112 yards rushing, 79 of them coming on a late touchdown.
Bellmont will host Jay County (2-7) in the sectional opener in what should be the most winnable game of the year for the winless Braves. That game can be heard live on WPGW or by listening online at wpgwradio.com.
