Work at the Five Points intersection in Decatur is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be completed soon.
Most of the intersection was reopened last Friday, Oct. 11,with only Adams St. remaining closed due to some ongoing work.
City Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert said that two old, existing water valves that are still hooked to Adams St. are leaking in the intersection. That situation will be remedied once the project is completed, he added.
Gilbert said the entire intersection is expected to be open by the time the annual Callithumpian Parade is held Oct. 28. The parade marches south to the intersection, where it breaks up.
According to a schedule, the Indiana Department of Public Transportation (INDOT) which is in charge of the project, will begin demolishing the former Sunoco gas station at the intersection the week before Thanksgiving.

That will also include removal of the former station’s fuel tank
The work to install a roundabout at the intersection is still on tap for next spring.
