The final night of the regular season in Z Land ended with important victories, senior night festivities and a bitter, five-set loss as local teams prep for next week’s sectionals.
Only one local team will play in a tournament Saturday. Adams Central will play at Union County to wrap up their regular season.
At Bellmont, the Braves wrapped up another unbeaten NE8 season with a convincing defeat of Columbia City on Senior Night.

At Delta, the South Adams Starfires were beaten in five sets in a thrilling match that may have ended in defeat, but will also have the Stars hungry for redemption in next week’s postseason.
Adams Central, meanwhile, took care of Southern Wells to round out a 5-1 season in the ACAC round-robin. The Jets and Starfires each finished with one loss in the conference, while Adams Central won the in-season tournament.
Heritage wrapped up their regular season with a tough matchup against a solid Bishop Dwenger team and lost 3-0.
Bellmont 3 Columbia City 0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-18)
The Braves wrapped up the year with a 23rd victory overall and a perfect NE8 record with a win on Senior Night, with the home fans honoring seniors Katie Mills and Kamryn Jarvis before the game.

MaryKate Scheumann had an outstanding hitting night going 16 for 27 to lead the team in kills. The junior is set to top 500 kills next week at sectional and is currently second in the state in kills.
Alyssa Gumbel had a great night at the net with five solo blocks and two assists. The junior also added two aces and eight kills.
Katie Mills had eight digs in her final home game as the Braves’ libero and Kamryn Jarvis had four kills and three aces.

Next Match: The Braves’ first ever foray into 4A will be broadcast live on 92.7 FM when the Braves face another NE8 opponent in Huntington North Thursday at 6 p.m. That sectional is being played at Fort Wayne South Side.
Delta 3 South Adams 2 (17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-9)
South Adams led at 1-0 and again at 2-1, but dropped the final two sets to lose their regular season finale.
Reece Beitler had 27 digs in the marathon match to go with ten kills and a pair of aces.
Avery Brown had 17 kills in the loss.
Next Match: South Adams will play a rubber match against Adams Central on Thursday at Woodlan. Coverage of that match (scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.) will commence immediately after the conclusion of WZBD’s coverage of the Bellmont match at South Side (6 p.m. start).
Adams Central 3 Southern Wells 0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-11)
The Jets finished the ACAC schedule with a win. Coach Tami Henry’s team won the ACAC tournament and finished with the same record as regular season champion South Adams (5-1).
