
Bonita J. Lengerich, 98, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Adams Heritage Nursing Home. Bonita was born in Pendleton, IN on February 22, 1926, to the late Charles E. and Nettie E. (Cook) Johnson. Bonita married Julius L. Lengerich on November 6, 1945. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1985.
Bonita was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and a member of the Rosary Society. She served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the homebound and those in the nursing home. She was devout in her faith and attended Mass and recited the Rosary daily. She was a homemaker and a hard worker. She helped her late husband run his businesses in Decatur
She is survived by 2 sons, David R. (Jan) Lengerich of Sun Prairie, WI and Ervin J. (Rinko) Lengerich of Salida, CO; a daughter, Angela J. Knaub of Decatur; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and 1 on the way.
Bonita was preceded in death by a son, Phillip E. Lengerich; 3 brothers, a step brother, a sister and a granddaughter, Summer Lengerich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Ruppert officiating. Calling will be prior to Mass from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall.
The Rite of Committal will take place on Monday, October 7th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
