A pair of great singles matches at the top of the ticket both went the way of the South Adams Starfires Thursday as the team continued their fantastic form with a win over Union City, while the Bellmont Braves faced one of the very best teams in the NE8 and lost in straight sets across the board.
As the clocks tick toward the sectional draw and with just two weeks of the regular season remaining, local teams are all trying to fine tune their service games and to solidify their conditioning and the doubles partnerships.
South Adams will face a true test Monday night when they host Norwell and the Stars will turn around and face Adams Central Tuesday.
Bellmont will seek their first win of the season when they play Leo at home Tuesday.
Despite the lack of team wins, head coach at Bellmont, Kyle Arnold, knows that each night gives his boys a chance to grow as players and as a group.
“Mason Vrablic (assistant coach) and I stressed to the boys heading into the match that we didn’t care about the score,” said Arnold late Thursday night. “We wanted to see the guys implement some of the things we’ve been working on in practice. I felt they did that tonight. Sometimes you have to set your own goals outside the usual parameters of wins and losses when you face an opponent like this and the odds are against you.”
Bellmont will also play Norwell next week when the Knights come to BHS on Thursday.
