If all goes as scheduled, milling of several Decatur streets will begin this week.
Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its latest meeting that Brooks Construction will begin the milling (removing the top layer of asphalt) “and it will be a long, drawn-out process.”
If the Brooks schedule holds, paving will begin on Sept. 17.
A state Community Crossings grant is funding the major portion of the project.
The grant totals $810,508.10. The city is providing a match of some $253,300 (which was budgeted), boosting total funds available for the work to over $1 million: $1,013,135.12.

The work includes resurfacing the Riverside Center parking lot and the city lot behind Two Brothers.
