Metal N Motion, which expanded into Decatur from Monroeville some three years ago, is looking to boost production here with a major new piece of expensive equipment.
So the metal fabricating company is seeking a five-year property tax abatement from Decatur City Council.
Owner Eric Sorg and Adams County Economic Development Director Colton Bickel pitched the plea to council at its latest meeting.
The laser cutter represents an investment of $478,278, Bickel pointed out.
The machine could increase production four fold. “It should bring in new customers for us,” Sorg noted. And those new customers would result in the addition of new employees, he added.
Metal N Motion, situated at 827 S. 11th St. (north of the Red Barn veterinary clinic), currently has nine employees.
The company has been in Monroeville 11 years and in Decatur the last three.
Council approved a declaratory resolution, the first toward allowing the abatement. Next will be a public hearing at the Sept. 3 council meeting.
If approved, the abatement would provide a 100% cut in Metal N Motion’s tax bill the first year, then an 80 % cut the next year, then trims of 60%, 40% and 20% the ensuing three years.
