The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious vehicle collision involving two
commercial vehicles. The accident happened on August 28, 2024, at approximately 6:09 AM in
the 2900 Block of N US HWY 33.



Paul Twigg, 59, of Portland, IN, was driving a 2025 Mack Semi with a grain hopper southeast on
US HWY 33, when for an unknown reason, travelled off the roadway, hitting a utility pole. The
Mack then travelled back on the roadway where he crossed the center line and the two units
collided, resulting in significant injuries to Mr. Twigg. He was emergently transported to a
trauma center in Fort Wayne for treatment of his injuries. His condition is currently stable, but he
remains under medical care.
Carlton Richeal, 65, of Fort Wayne, IN, was the operator of the 2024 Kenworth. Mr. Richeal was
Northwest bound at the time of the accident. He was emergently transported to a trauma center in
Fort Wayne for treatment of his injuries. His condition is currently stable, but he remains under
medical care.
Both Twigg and Richeal have provided blood samples for testing as part of the ongoing
investigation. The results of the blood tests are pending and will be reviewed once available.
The Adams County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Decatur Fire Department, Indiana
State Police, INDOT and Piqua Repair were all promptly dispatched to the scene to provide
assistance and manage the aftermath of the collision.
At this time US HWY 33 remains closed between Salem Road and SR 101.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this
incident.
